What this guide covers
This article explains how to use the survey build wizard in the People Insight platform, how survey templates work and how to choose the right template type for your goals.
Why you use a wizard and templates
The build wizard is a step-by-step interface that guides you through survey creation- from choosing your template or starting from scratch, through question design, to distribution settings and launch.
Templates are pre-built question sets and structures aligned to specific survey goals (e.g., engagement, wellbeing, inclusion). They help you save time, ensure consistency and allow you to leverage best-practice models.
How the build wizard works
When you create a survey in the People Insight platform:
You select Create Survey and choose whether to use a template or build entirely from scratch.
If you choose a template, you pick a survey model aligned to your objective.
You customise the question set—editing, removing or adding questions as needed.
You set up the survey structure: sections, branching logic if required.
You configure design elements – welcome page message, branding/logo, language options, accessibility.
You upload or define your participant list (or choose an open link option).
You specify your distribution method (email invite, intranet link, open link, etc), set the start/end dates, reminders.
You preview/test the survey across devices.
Finally you launch and monitor response rates.
Survey template types – what to choose
People Insight offers a set of science-backed survey models which underpin different template types. These include:
Engagement (Pearl™) – designed to measure overall employee engagement across themes like purpose, enablement, reward and leadership. People Insight+2People Insight+2
Wellbeing (Thrive™) – focused on employee wellbeing and drivers such as climate, role, organisational culture. People Insight
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (Belong™) – measuring belonging, equity, governance, opportunity. People Insight
Change Management (Navigate™) – designed for periods of organisational change, focusing on communication, involvement and impact. People Insight
Lifecycle Surveys – tailored to touchpoints in the employee journey (onboarding, exit, promotion, etc) to capture experience at each stage. People Insight+1
Custom / From Scratch – if none of the standard templates exactly fit your needs, the wizard allows you to build your own survey framework and question set.
Choosing the right template for your Survey
To select the most appropriate template type, ask:
What is our primary objective for the survey (what outcome do we want to understand or improve)?
Which part of the employee or organisational experience are we focusing on (engagement, wellbeing, inclusion, change, lifecycle)?
Do we need a question set aligned to benchmarking or driver-analysis?
Are we comfortable customising the template heavily, or do we want to use it largely as-is to save time and maintain comparability?
What is our distribution model, participant base and timeframe?
Matching your objective and audience to the right template type ensures the survey will generate useful, actionable results.
In summary
Using the wizard together with the right survey template type in the People Insight platform allows you to build a survey efficiently, aligned to best-practice models and tailored to your organisation’s needs. Whether you choose a standard template (Engagement, Wellbeing, DEI, Change, Lifecycle) or build custom from scratch, the wizard supports you with structured steps, flexibility and rigour.
